Baby Blanket Guide: Materials, Care and Safe Sleep

A baby blanket’s softness, material or marketing label does not establish that it is suitable for sleep. Before choosing one, check the intended use and product instructions. This guide explains what to verify; it does not certify any Trimita product for infant sleep.

What should you know about infant sleep?

NIH guidance recommends a firm, flat, level infant sleep surface with a fitted sheet only, without loose blankets. Read the NIH safe sleep guidance. Ask your child’s healthcare professional about age-appropriate sleep arrangements.

How do you compare materials?

Read the exact fibre composition, including any backing or filling. Do not assume that “cotton”, “organic” or “breathable” means a blanket prevents allergies, skin irritation, overheating or suffocation. We have removed those unsupported assurances from this article.

If certification is stated, look for documentation covering the specific product. This article does not establish GOTS or any other certification for the collection.

Which size and care instructions apply?

Check the measurements and care label of the actual item. There is no single size in this guide that we endorse for cots, pushchairs and car seats alike. Washing temperature, drying method and suitability for machine washing must come from the product’s own instructions.

Does a lifestyle photo demonstrate safe use?

No. A photograph is not a safety test or an instruction for sleep, swaddling or carrying. This image shows an adult holding a baby; it should not be interpreted as a recommendation to leave a blanket in a sleep space.

What should you verify before buying?

  • The product’s stated purpose and any age or use restrictions.
  • Composition, dimensions and care instructions.
  • Evidence for any certification or performance claim.
  • Guidance from a healthcare professional for infant sleep or individual skin concerns.

We do not recommend using a towel as a baby carrier, improvising infant bedding or relying on a fabric’s softness as a safety guarantee. This article replaces earlier unsupported baby-use and health claims; it is general information, not individual medical advice.
