Throw Blanket Size Guide: Choose the best dimensions for your needs and your style
A throw can add colour to an armchair, create a layer at the foot of a bed or sit ready for a reading break. Choosing a size starts with where you want to use it and how much coverage you prefer.
Start with the way you will use it
- For decoration: measure the part of the sofa or bed you want to cover.
- For relaxing: consider whether you want it across your lap or around your shoulders and legs.
- For a bed: measure the mattress and decide how far you want the throw to hang on each side.
Examples of throw dimensions
Use these example dimensions to compare how much space a throw can cover. Terms such as twin, queen and king can vary between ranges.
| Inches | Approx. centimetres |
|---|---|
| 50 × 60 | 127 × 152 |
| 60 × 90 | 152 × 229 |
| 96 × 90 | 244 × 229 |
| 108 × 90 | 274 × 229 |

Measure your furniture before choosing
Use a measuring tape to mark the area you want to cover. For a bed, add your preferred side drop to the mattress width on both sides. For example, a 160 cm mattress with a 20 cm drop on each side needs 200 cm of width: 160 + 20 + 20 = 200 cm. Use the same calculation with your own mattress width and preferred drop.
For a sofa, decide whether you want a folded accent on one arm or a larger drape over the seat and back. Consider thickness, feel, composition and care alongside the size.
