How to Choose and Care for a Turkish Towel

A Turkish towel, also called a peshtemal, can accompany you from the bathroom to a beach day. Some people also use one as a wrap or spread it out for a picnic. The right choice depends on how you plan to use it.

What to look for in a Turkish towel

Start with the dimensions and fibre composition. Choose enough coverage for a beach wrap or somewhere to sit, and consider how much room you have in your bag. Compare weight, weave and thickness to find a towel that suits your plans.

Look at the evenness of the weave, the finished edges and the fringe knots. At Trimita, our textile story is rooted in Denizli and the work of women artisans, with natural fibres and slow fashion at the heart of the brand.

Three care tips

1. Wash with the care label in mind

Use the washing instructions for your towel. Where a 30°C wash is specified, choose that temperature and a suitable detergent. Keep hooks and open zips away from the weave, and wash with similar colours.

2. Dry it carefully

Gently reshape the towel after washing. If the label recommends air drying, hang it with enough space for air to circulate and put it away only when dry. Use a tumble dryer only when the care label allows it.

3. Check fringes and loose threads

If a fringe knot has loosened, carefully retie it. Avoid pulling or cutting an unfamiliar loose thread in the woven fabric, as it may be part of the structure. Ask for repair advice if you are unsure.

Explore Trimita Turkish towels to compare colours, dimensions and the care details of each design.
